Welcome
Céad míle fáilte — a hundred thousand welcomes.
The Lutheran Mission in Ireland exists to bring the pure preaching of the Gospel and the right administration of Christ's Sacraments to the people of Munster and beyond. We are not a new religion, and we are not inventing anything. We confess the same faith taught by the apostles, confessed in the ancient creeds, and recovered at the Reformation: that sinners are justified before God by grace alone, through faith alone, for the sake of Christ alone.
We stand in the tradition of confessional Lutheranism, in the fellowship of churches represented by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of England (ELCE) and The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Our worship is liturgical and reverent, our teaching is drawn from the Holy Scriptures, and our confessions are those of the Book of Concord of 1580.
What to expect
Our services follow the historic Divine Service — the liturgy of the Western Church, cleansed and clarified by the Reformation. If you have grown up attending Mass in Ireland, much will feel familiar: the ordered liturgy, the church year, the reverence at the altar. What you will hear with new clarity is the Gospel itself — the full and free forgiveness of sins, won by Christ on the cross and delivered to you in Word and Sacrament.
Because we are a mission, we do not yet have a resident pastor. Pastors visit to celebrate the Divine Service, teach, and provide pastoral care. Check the calendar for upcoming visits — and between visits, we would love to hear from you.
What We Believe
The Scriptures, the creeds, justification by faith, and the Sacraments — the heart of the Lutheran confession.
The Catechism
Read Luther's Small Catechism — the six chief parts of Christian doctrine, for the head of the family and every Christian.
Why Lutheranism for Ireland?
Liturgical, sacramental, and evangelical — the catholic faith without the abuses that wounded it.
